Clear Communication for One of Romania’s Busiest Airports
With the construction of the new Terminal 4, IASI International Airport has significantly expanded its capacity and infrastructure. As the second largest terminal in Romania, T4 covers a total surface area of 31,250 m² across three levels and is designed to handle the estimated 3.5 million passengers annually. The entire development – including a new parking area, access roads and a photovoltaic park – was completed in just 14 months, with 75% of the €90 million investment funded by the European Union.
As part of this milestone project, a modern and future-proof voice alarm system was required to meet the high safety standards and operational demands of a busy airport environment.
Customized Safety and Efficiency
Our Romanian partner Romaudiovideo was responsible for the installation and chose the reliable TOA VX-3000 voice alarm system, integrating it seamlessly with various loudspeakers indoors and outdoors matched to the terminal’s different zones and acoustic conditions:
• ceiling speakers for indoor public areas
• wall-mounted speakers for corridors and service zones
• horn speakers for outdoor use and car parking area
• pendant speakers for high-ceilinged areas such as departure halls
The system ensures clear and intelligible announcements throughout the terminal while enabling efficient communication between airport staff. Thanks to the integrated zoning function, areas such as check-in, baggage claim and boarding can be addressed individually or in combination, enhancing both safety and operational workflows.
Feedback from the Airport Team
“The new TOA system delivers high-quality sound and enables us to make zone-specific announcements – a feature we didn’t have before. It’s user-friendly and intuitive for everyone involved, making the entire process much more efficient.”, said Lucian Petcu, System Engineer at IASI International Airport.
The technical team was also highly satisfied with TOA’s local partner: “There were no issues during implementation – just some fine-tuning specific to the building’s open architecture. And if anything came up, the team of Romaudiovideo was just one call away. They exceeded our expectations by being open-minded, proactive and deeply knowledgeable in the audio-video field. We are looking forward to continuing this partnership with Romaudiovideo and TOA.”
Result: A High-Quality Airport Sound Experience
The voice alarm system at Terminal 4 is now not only an essential safety solution but also a powerful tool for daily airport operations. Staff can communicate more efficiently, passengers are clearly informed, and the terminal is equipped for the future.
